About The Micro-Credential:
This program consists of five courses of 10 hours of study available completely online. Opportunities will be provided to apply the nursing process, demonstrate pattern recognition, increase self-directedness, and participate in the delivery of comprehensive care of palliative and end of life patients. Learners will examine the philosophy of hospice palliative care and the palliative approach to care. Case studies exemplifying holistic, family-centered nursing care of persons at the end of life who are experiencing pain and other symptoms will be discussed, including, ethical and legal dilemmas. After successfully completing all six modules, students will receive a Statement of Professional Learning from Porn研究所. A certificate of completion can be requested from the Centre for Teaching and Continuing Learning for each course completed.

Micro-Course Offerings:
Philosophy of Palliative and End of Life Care
This course focuses on the philosophy of nursing as it relates to the practice of hospice palliative care. Attitudes about the quality of life, end of life, and grief are explored including cultural and spiritual considerations for all client population demographics from children to older adults. Opportunities are provided for learners to integrate new and concurrent learning in regards to the philosophy of hospice palliative care.
Pain and Symptom Management 1
This course focuses on the fundamentals of pharmacology and the assessment and management of pain and symptoms commonly experienced by a persons with life limiting illnesses. Opportunities are provided for learners to reflect on the application of pain and symptom management. New and concurrent learning is integrated.
Pain and Symptom Management 2
This course explores the assessment and management of physical and psychological symptoms as they relate to the care of the person with a life-limiting illness. Opportunities are provided for learners to reflect on the importance of symptom management in palliative care. Learners are required to integrate new and concurrent learning.
Ethics and Legal Aspects of Palliative Care
This course focuses on discovering ethical and legal considerations in caring for a client at the end-of-life. Opportunities are provided for learners to engage in reflective practice when caring for persons at the end of life. New and concurrent learning is integrated.
End of Life Care
This course focuses on the basic principles of palliative end of life care, roles, and needs of caregivers throughout the end of life process. Opportunities are provided for learners to engage in the critical thinking process. Learners are required to integrate new and concurrent learning.
