Helen Shang
Biography
I studied Chemical Engineering at?Tsinghua University, China, where I?received my?BASc. and MASc in Chemical Engineering. For my?PhD, I worked in the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Alberta, Canada, and?carried out research on advanced control methods for complicated systems.
Since 2002, I have?been teaching process control and other engineering courses at Porn研究所, where I?also conduct?significant research in both theoretical and applied industrial process modeling and control.
I am?a past chair of the System and Control Division of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering (CSChE), and have?co-chaired several national and international conferences in Sudbury, ON.

Research
My?research focus is?on a wide area of process modeling and control, and?includes:
- industrial process control
- bioreactor design
- distributed parameter systems
- system diagnosis and fault detection
- energy recovery and reuse
- off-gas systems
- smelter systems
- SAG mill modeling
- automated mining.
The?research is?well supported by NSERC Discovery, NSERC CRD, CEMI, Vale, Xstrata, MITACS, CFI, Ontario Innovation Trust and MMO.
